Countdown to election day: Getting out the vote
This webinar reviewed effective and creative Get Out The Vote (GOTV) tactics such as coordinating rides to the polls, reaching out to community members who have not yet voted, and activating voters through artistic expression. The saved chat can be found here and the transcript can be found here. The webinar recording and slideshow can be found below.
Krystal Barrett, programs coordinator at the Center for Artistic Activism, presented her organization's creative strategies for increasing civic engagement in communities. She shared several examples, including the Chinese-American Planning Council’s recent success on their City Advocacy Day, whose use of cultural imagery to create a fun, artistic environment motivated voters to write to legislators and register at higher rates. She shared the Unstoppable Voters toolkit, which contains studies and strategies for creating participatory voter engagement. Sarah Kovich, founder of RideShare2Vote Aware, discussed her organization’s complimentary rideshare service - available to voters year-round – as an essential resource for voters looking to secure the final step of their voting plan. Jen Thomas, community engagement manager of the Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania, and Jan Bechtel, resident services program manager for HDC MidAtlantic, discussed their collective mission to educate and mobilize voters leading up to the election through community engagement events and voter communication, which ensures that voters understand the impact of their ballot on the issues affecting their daily lives.
