Knowing Your Rights: voter protection during election season

This webinar shared resources and strategies that nonprofits can employ to ensure that voters know their rights and participate in voter protection initiatives throughout election season. Kimiya Factory, senior national coordinator for election protection at the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, presented on the multilingual Election Protection Hotline, an essential resource that connects trained legal volunteers with voters to help them overcome obstacles to the ballot box. She also discussed the committee’s grassroots field programs as a high-impact volunteer opportunity to recruit poll monitors, disperse accurate and relevant election information, and directly interface with voters to hear firsthand barriers to participating in the electoral process. Nicole Burns, former national director of Patient Voting, discussed the voting processes available to voters who are unexpectedly hospitalized on Election Day and the state-level differences in emergency voting procedure. Amirah Noaman, executive director of Pizza to the Polls, explained her organization’s work to promote a positive voting experience, including its food delivery services to provide for those waiting in long lines across the country.  ​
