Voter Registration 101

Chyann Sapp, campaign director of National Voter Registration Day, presented on ways to celebrate National Voter Registration Day (Tuesday, September 17), and the benefits of becoming a community partner. She described the resources that National Voter Registration Day makes available to support community partners, including complimentary swag, and how to plan a successful activation. Chyann also shared tips for registering voters and talking points for reaching low-income voters. 

Andrew West, policy associate at Colorado Coalition for the Homeless, described successful voter registration initiatives that his organization has undertaken in Colorado, including tabling at health centers, conducting voter registration drives at Colorado Coalition for the Homeless properties, and integrating voter engagement into the organization's communications strategy. Andrew also highlighted key considerations for registering voters experiencing homelessness and returning citizens. Overall, Andrew emphasized the importance of going into the community and reaching potential voters where they are at. 

Courtney Cooperman, project manager of Our Homes, Our Votes, gave a walkthrough of TurboVote, a one-stop shop where voters can update their registration, check their registration status, sign up for election reminders, and learn about upcoming elections in their communities.
